Food & Drink

Delicious food and perfectly served drinks

After 32 years running the popular Vienna Restaurant in Farnham, Paul and Nichola certainly know what they’re doing when it comes to food. They are continuing to serve their fantastic fish menus along side popular pub classics including Beef Wellington, Gressingham duck, 28 day hung steaks and much more besides. Everything on the menu is with exceptionally high quality ingredients and all the sea food comes direct from Johnsonson on the quay at Portsmouth. Paul and Nichola have been using Johnsons for more than 20 years and some days they even have a chat to the fishermen before they head out on the boats for the days – it doesn’t get better than that! The Chequers Inn is a pub with an a la carte menu that is hard to beat. Come along and enjoy it for yourself.

The Chequers Inn also has a daily sandwich selection and a fantastic daily blackboard special which can have up to 15 stunning fresh fish dishes on it each day.

To top it all off there is a superb dessert board, offering a range of scrumptious treats. A range of coffees and speciality teas are also available.

We specialise in sea food

As we are lucky enough to have fresh fish supplied to us daily from the south coast. We decided to take full advantage of this and specialise in providing a vast array on our sea food menu.

Our selection of fish include: Turbot; Skate; Dover Sole; Scollops; Sea Bass; Sea Bream; Lemon Sole; Plaice; Wild Salmon; Rock Salmon; Cod fillets and also Mussels, Crabs and Lobster.

Be sure to ask for the menu when you visit.

Food service times

Monday to Saturday – 12 noon – 9:30pm
Sunday – 12 noon – 9pm

Paul and Nichola are proud of their welcoming atmosphere and are delighted to welcome you to the bar to enjoy a drink with them. When visiting, make sure to try our cask or bottled Badger beer straight from award winning family brewers Hall & Woodhouse in Dorset. We are also proud to serve internationally acclaimed lagers including Peroni and Amstel, and the Irish favourite, Guinness.

We also have a selection of ciders, including Stowford Press on draught. We serve bottled Pearwood and Applewood Cider, which are a collaboration between award-winning Hall & Woodhouse and Thatcher’s Cider of Somerset.

Aside from the delicious food we serve, and award winning Badger ales we pour, The Chequers Inn at Well is locally renowned as being a fantastic pub for country pursuits. It is full of rural character with comfortable furnishings.

A cosy pub; essentially untouched since being built in the 15th Century. The inglenook fireplace is the perfect backdrop for you to enjoy a truly British winter, and the rear garden boasts views overlooking acres of untouched countryside. We serve a variety of contemporary dishes and British classics, with in-season game being particularly popular amongst the locals. There are not many inns like the Chequers left in the whole of the country!

About the Area

The line of the “Harrow Way,” one of the oldest roads in England, runs through Well village.

Jane Austen’s house

Jane Austen is one of the most popular and important novelists that England has ever produced. The house at Chawton is where she spent the last eight years of her life. It is of international importance as the place where she did the majority of her mature writing, but at the same time retains the charm of a village home. A 17th century house, it tells the story of Jane Austen and her family.

It is set in 275 acres of Hampshire countryside, and is commonly used for conferences, filming and more recently as a venue for weddings. It is home to some of the rarest manuscripts of well-known female authors, including Jane Austin herself.
